In this lecture, I will share our best tips for creating the kind of conversational environment where people are the most likely to change their minds. Some of these are tips that we’ve been talking about since we launched ERI, and some of them we just developed in the last year, representing major changes in our approach to dialogue. This is one of our most fun speeches, filled with great stories of conversations to illustrate our points.

Josh Brahm will be speaking on the topics of persuasive pro-life arguments and relational apologetics at the Cliff Castle Casino Hotel in Camp Verde, AZ on November 8th.
In 2013, a group of advocates from multiple pro-life organizations started heavily experimenting with a different way of arguing for the personhood of the unborn. We were all shocked at how much more effective it was at changing the minds of pro-choice people than any other argument we had used before. We call it the Equal Rights Argument. This argument masterfully takes premises that almost all pro-choice people already strongly agree with, and demonstrates that the only reasonable conclusion is that the unborn is a person with a right to live.
When we use the phrase “relational apologetics,” we mean trying to change a person’s mind about a core belief in the context of genuine friendship. Most people will not change their minds about a serious subject after one conversation, so an ongoing dialogue with a friend can be really helpful.
